GRIIDC Releases New Dataset Monitoring Page!

GRIIDC has released an updated version of the Dataset Monitoring page! The Dataset Monitoring page is a unique feature of GRIIDC that allows users to view the status of datasets throughout the data package review process. Datasets submitted to GRIIDC are first identified through a Dataset Information Form, a type of data management plan, before data are collected or generated. After data have been submitted, GRIIDC reviews the data and metadata to ensure they are well-described, do not contain published materials, are in non-proprietary formats, and include all data necessary to reproduce the dataset. Once the dataset has passed the review, it is published and available for download. A submitter has the option to embargo the dataset until they reach the deadline of their funding organization’s data sharing policy. The monitoring page displays the status of the dataset throughout this process as Identified, Submitted, Available, or Restricted.

The redesigned Dataset Monitoring page features a search option, new reports, and an improved dataset status table. A search bar was added to allow a user to find specific funding cycles or research groups within the GRIIDC system. The search can be filtered by groups both with and without datasets identified and/or submitted.

The previous monitoring page provided a downloadable report of dataset statuses within a research group in a CSV format. We have added dataset status reports for funding organizations and funding cycles in both CSV and PDF formats.

The dataset status table that displays a unique dataset identifier, DOI, dataset’s title, and status has been simplified. The dataset status graphic is now interactive and shows a user what specific dataset it represents and points to it on the status table.

The previous monitoring page only displayed dataset status totals for a research group. Totals for the funding organizations and funding cycles have been added for easy reference.

The monitoring page can be useful for data submitters, program managers, and funding agencies to track data submission and compliance. Let us know what you think!
